The College of Saint Elizabeth, or CSE for short, is a private Roman Catholic, four-year, liberal arts college for women, located in Convent Station, in Morristown, which is a town in the US state of New Jersey, serving as the county seat of Morris County, housing nearly 19 000 people, within its limits, according to the 2004 census.
CSE was established in 1899 and it is the oldest women's college in the state and one of the first Catholic colleges in the US to award degrees to women. It was founded by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth and gets its name from Elizabeth Ann Seton (1774-1821), who founded the Sisters of Charity and who, after her death, was canonized as the United States' first native-born saint.
The college currently offers its students more than 25 baccalaureate degrees, 10 master's degree programs, a three year doctoral program in Educational Leadership, and a variety of professional certifications and certificates, providing `a large variety of programs to meet the challenges of the 21st century`, supporting `women and men as they search for intellectual and personal growth in the caring and supportive atmosphere of a Catholic liberal arts college.`
CSE's athletic teams call themselves the Screaming Eagles and they compete in NCAA Division III. Their distinctive colors are Gold and Royal Blue.
Louise Currie Wilmot, who worked for 30 years in the US States Navy, Shirley Hayes Tolentino, Municipal Court judge in Jersey City from1976-1984, and Nancy T. Delaney, former President of the Board of Employment Horizons, an agency that provides workforce training and jobs to persons with disabilities, and Senior Probation Officer in the Community Service Program for the Morris County Probation Department, are the noteworthy alumni from CSE.
